The stones are made of a mineral called Basalt, which is created from black volcanic rock. The volcanic rock or lava cools as it settles in river bottoms after the eruption of a volcano. Over time the surface of the rocks are smoothed down due to the constant flow of the river. These basalt rocks can absorb and retain heat well, which makes them an ideal tool to integrate heat into any treatment.
 
Your Earth Stone Facial will begin with a relaxing foot scrub and soak to ease tired muscles. Once you get onto the heated table, your therapist will perform a thorough skin analysis to determine the proper Aveda products for your skin. The therapist will start by cleansing and toning your face to rid the skin of any make-up, dirt or bacteria. An exfoliation will follow to slough off any dead, dry cells and allow fresh ones to surface. Next, your therapist will perform a facial massage with your chosen oil and a pair of hot stones. The first of two masks will follow as well as a soothing hot stone foot and leg massage.
